Grief can affect far more than how you feel. It can change your relationships, routines, sense of identity, and the way you understand your life after loss.
At Daylight Grief, grief counseling offers a place to slow down and make sense of what you are experiencing without pressure to move on, find closure, or grieve in a particular way.
Whether your loss was recent or years ago, sudden or anticipated, you don't have to figure out how to carry it alone.
Grief following the death of a spouse or partner, parent, child, sibling, friend, or another important person.
Support following an unexpected or traumatic death, including when the circumstances of the loss are difficult to process.
Grief that can begin before a death, including during serious illness, caregiving, or when a significant loss is expected.
Support following the death of a beloved pet and the loss of that relationship can be deeply significant.
Grief for what changes alongside a death, including: identity, relationships, routines, roles, belonging, and the future you expected.
Significant changes in relationships, identity, roles, or ways of life can also bring very real experiences of grief, including divorce, estrangement, retirement, major career changes, moving, or an empty nest.
Grief counseling is not about moving on, finding closure, or following a set timeline. It is a space to better to understand your grief and how your loss is affecting your life.
Our work together may include talking about the person who died and the relationship you shared, navigating difficult emotions or reminders, exploring changes in identity and relationships, developing ways to cope with particuarly difficult moments, and making sense of how the loss fits into the life you are continuing to live.
There is no single way this has to look. Some sessions may focus directly on your grief, while others may focus on relationships, anxiety, difficult dates, everyday stressors, or simply what feels most important that day.
There is no particular point in grief when you are supposed to seek counseling. You may be feeling overwhelmed by your loss, or you may be managing day-to-day life while noticing that grief continues to affect you in ways you'd like to better understand.
Grief counseling may be helpful if you are:
You don't need to know exactly what you need from counseling before you begin. We can start with where you are.
Beginning grief counseling doesn't require knowing exactly what you want to work on. We can start with a conversation about what you're experiencing and what kind of support might feel helpful.
Individual grief counseling is available to adults in person in Morristown, NJ, as well as virtually throughout New Jersey.
